the burn rate is the difference. actually the lower grades would be considered better quality. they burn quicker, while the higher grades will work in turbo and high compression engines the quality is about the same.
the higher octane has more resistence to detonation which means it's more difficult to burn. so if you run 93 in a car that was intended for 87 you are hurting performance unless you advance ignition timing or do motor work that requires higher octane.
quality of gas really depends on the supplier not the octane rating.
Since I just turned over 600 miles, and the dealer supplied a full tank with the car, I haven't had time to try anything in it yet. I just filled with 87 mid-grade the only time I have filled it up so far. I expect that is what I will generally use.
My manuel got tossed in the garbage, when my girl spilled her big ass hot starbucks coffee on it ......
