Default Howto remove axle nut???

Hi, I'm trying to change the front rotors for my 97 Accord SE. I've already disassembled the calipers and the caliper holders, but I just can unscrew the front axle nuts. There are dents on both of the nuts, and I think they are there to keep the nuts from unscrewing themselves. Do I need special tool to pound the dents back out? or can I just use a flat head screw driver? I got the 36mm socket already, do I need anything else? Please help!

undent them, I used a variety of things like screwdrivers to pound the dent out.

I ended up needing a 3/4" drive breaker bar and a 5ft pipe to break the thing loose. Just hope your's isnt rusted on or something.

Yeah, you will have to get a big breaker bar, I got an 18 inch one, and then also used a long metal pipe on the end of that. I had to also stand and jumped on it before it finally broke loose.

Watch out, its tightened to 180ft lbs if i remember correctly. I unbolted mine with a 4ft pipe on the end of a friend's breaker bar. I broke my breaker bar stomping on it . I also had a friend stomp on the brakes so it wouldnt spin. Good luck.

*edit* also sprayed the nut with wd40 30 minutes beforehand

btw, break it loose before you jack the car up when the car is on the ground. The tires will prevent the thing from turning.

Use a 3/4" drive breaker bar if you can, i too broke my 1/2" drive one on the axle nut. 5ft pipes are your friend

I used a 5ft torque wrench on my SE-R. It came off quite easily.

Also, do you turn the axle nut counter-clockwise to remove it for both the driver and passenger side?

Righty-tighty , Lefty-Loosy

easy way to remember which way to turn it, so left or counter-clockwise is loosen, same counter-clockwise for both sides.

and where the hell can u get a 5ft torque wrench?????
