DETAILED AC Question...experts needed
Ok, so here is a long but trur stoy about my AC
Last July my ac stopped working so I took it to Goodyear. They said I was out of refrigerant and refilled it. Work fine for a few days but then stopped working again. I took it back and they told me that I had 2 holes in my condesor and that the condensor had to be replaced. I decided just to wait it out becuz at that point it was about August and I thought I would rather wait till April/May of the following year to get it fixed right before the next "hot" season.
Well this past May I had a fire under the hood. It started from the passenger side head light and ended up causing about $5,200 worth of damage...yeah I'm being serious. The reason it cost so much was parts...one single wiring harness was about $700 plus a bunch of other things including the power steering resevoir, brake system, so on and so forth...
Ok...here is the real question...
When the body shop had my car they said they had to recharge the AC system...I was wishing they would replace the condensor and have the insurance company pay for it...
There was a lot of work done to the AC system but the condensor was not replaced.
Now...after getting the car back the AC works...some what!
There is cool air coming out of the vents...but not that cool. It is kind of like a really cool fan...not an AC. For example, it will keep me cool when I aim the vents towrds me but it will not cool up the whole car.
What should I do? I have gone back to the bodyshop to try and get the guy to do something...he has filled up the refrigerant to the max and says filling it further will cause problems. Remeber though, the condensor was never replaced but the AC system is working better than it did last year.
Replace the condensor?...Stick with it?...

$5200 OMG
After all that and a fire I would have it replaced no matter what. I am not a AC expert but just my opinion. DId you have to come out of pocket for all of that???

I agree with vtecaccord01 you should have also replaced it at that time. One question i have is did they replace the reciever dryer? The reason being that once it is open to the atmosphere for more than an hour its garbage that could be one of your problems.
