Default My weekend installs (with pics)

Here are a bunch of pictures of the install me and my dad did over the weekend (the link is in my signature). With these new 6x9s and speaker amp, my car sounds nice as hell. This is my current setup:

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P740MP
Front Stage: 6.5" Infinity Kappa 63.2i
Rear Stage: 6x9 Pioneer TS-A6995
Speakers Amp: DEI4500 75Wx4
Subwoofer: Infinity Perfect 12.1
Subwoofer Box: Sealed, 1.25 cubic feet
Subwoofer Amp: DEI400 400Wx1

I also put on the clear bumper lenses. I think they totally change the look of my car, I love em.

I still have to take the reflectors out of the tail lights sometime. Plus my indiglos are coming Weds (hopefully) and I am going to change my dash control lights to blue. And I STILL have to pick out which damn rims I want!

Man I love this stuff

nice, you're off to a good start. how about dropping the car before you get rims?

Yeah... I meant the amber part (tail lights)
...
Yeah... I was wondering what to do about lowering it. If I got new tires (215/45/17), how bad would the gap be?
Also, what's the cheapest (but still EFFICIENT) way to lower my car. I saw a nicely lowered car with coilovers. What do I need to not have my car be all bouncy (like some other lowered cars i've ridden in)? Any info (price, brands, types) would be greatly appreciated.

holy crap that looks expensive.

someone tell me if the wheel gap would look bad with 215/45/17's on it (without lowering it).

if it doesn't, and since I can't afford coilovers & camber kits, I guess I might as well get a spoiler and tint instead? I have the alloy rims, and they don't look too bad.

I dunno, any ideas or suggestions?

Ive been lookin into ways to lower the same car man. . . The actual diameter of your new tires isnt that much different from stock, less than a centimeter in fact. (my enkei CDR-9s with the same tires will be here this week =) Pics to come) , so with larger rims, the gap might actually appear bigger so lowering will be key. I was lookin for cheap ways to do it too since im exceedingly strapped for cash and my next mod is gonna be exhaust, not suspension. Really, there isnt a cheap way to lower your car so that it doesnt ride like ****. It'll either be hard as hell or really bouncy if you dont get decent stuff. You could get away without a camber kit if you keep it to 1.5-1.75 inch lowering. . . So maybe neuspeed springs with your choice of shocks/struts, tokico or koni are a good bet although koni is mad expensive. If you come into some money, you could go with the coilover option which to a certain extent increases your leeway as far as camber adjustment, but a decent coilover kit is a good chunk of change. Make sure you check out what you are getting and read review on the ****. Some coilover kits arent complete and just give you springs and the sleeve components but no shocks. Lowering is really one of the things you have to be most careful about because if its not done carefully and correctly, you could ruin the suspension geometry of your car which would not only make it ride like ass, but would decrease the sale value immensely if you chose to return it to stock and get rid of it.

jesus that don't sound good. too much f'n money. I'd have to spend WELL over $1500 to get wheels/tires/coilover/etc...

I should just spend $500 and get tint, spoiler, and S-type tail lights maybe.

I mean, I think rims would make a greater impression on the car, but if getting 17s is going to give me a lot of wheel gap, then it probably wouldn't look good until I could afford springs, camber, etc.

i dunno what to do, why can't car stuff be cheaper

Just to make this clear. Do not- DO NOT- cheap out on suspension. You WILL regret it later. Lowering for looks is all well and good, but I speak from experience that a hugely lowered car is way more trouble than it's worth. Get some springs that lower about 1.5 to 1.75 inches, like Eibach Pro-Kit, Neuspeed Sport or H&R Sport and a set of good shocks (Ideally Koni, but there are others that will suffice.). That setup with your car will look good, and (I think more importantly) ride well. When you get around to getting rims, be sure to get 215/45 series tires if you get 17s. That will get rid of enough of the wheel gap to make it look good. It used to be the thing (and I guess some would say it still is...) to get rid of all the gap between the tire and fender, but cars need some suspension travel to work. If the world were perfectly flat, we'd all ride around .5 millimeters off the ground, but it's not. Just give it some thought before you do anything to your suspension. You'll have the last laugh later when all those other people have spent 3 times as much looking for a suspension setup that works. Sorry to have gone off on a rant, but this is something I'm going through right now. There are other things I'd rather spend about 600 bones on, too, but I have to correct my earlier mistake of over-lowering. Good luck with it all. Your stereo setup sounds good, I'm sure.

Yeah I just found out that the wheel gap will be the same as now if I get rims. I thought it was going to make the gap bigger. Since the gap isn't too bad, I'm going to go ahead and get my rims. Lowering (if it happens at all) will just have to wait. NOW IF I COULD ONLY PICK OUT WHICH F'N RIMS I WANT!
