Default My car is fawked up

Went out to a body shop the get an estimate of getting the wing taken off and holes filled, lip painted, and sides of my cf hood painted. On the way home, the road had been recently been repaved, and the manhole cover were about 8" above the road surface. Couldn't avoid one, and banged the shit outta my front crossmember where the drives side suspension trailing arm connects. now my car makes all kinds of funky noises when I turn, and klunks. I'm not happy. I have a feeling I'm going to wind up suing the county to get it fixed.

Its not the county that you will have to sue, although conctacting the county or city where it happened won't hurt. It would be whatever company they contract out to do the roadwork that would need to be sued. Contact a lawyer. If there are signs marking that there is road construction, then you're basically out of luck. All it takes is a single sign showing that there is road construction in the area that the incident occured and you will be out of luck. Road construction companies cover their asses quite well. Be prepared for a fight. The cost of suing the road construction company may far exceed the cost of repairs. Make calls; it can't hurt.

I have a meeting with the county engineers and the constuction comany next week. The construction is FINISHED, and the construction company decided to leave it like that. I went out the next day and took pictured and notes. During the day, the covers are so high, that cars are swerving onto the shoulders, and into the oncoming lanes to avoid them. The covers are on average 4-5 inches above the pavement, with about 2 inches of ramping surrounding. The signs they had out at night were not reflectorized, and impossible to see on a road without streetlights. And if Its one thing I know, Its how the legal system works. I really doubt it would goto court anyway. I'm friends with one of the county engineers, and he told me they would take care of it.

The other day, I swirved out into the center lane from the outer right lane, when I suddenly noticed a huge manhole cover, as i approached the downhill part of a little hill, and as I regained my composure I looked straight ahead to see a cop that just saw me do that....at that point i thought i was pretty much getting pulled, but as I drove by I kept peeking through my mirror only to see him stay in his spot.....=). I would have bent the f*ck out of my two front wheels for sure, if I did not swirve.

But I feel you, because I bottomed out badly and put a large dent into my header, and screwed up a few other things, when they were doing construction and the road just dropped out of nowhere and my car just slammed...

it's surprising that more people don't complain about poor road conditions nowadays with more car companies making big wheels and low profile tires as standard equipment instead of just being for sports cars.
