Default Newbie question on used accords.. (90-00)

I've just started looking for my 1st car, and have been thinking about getting a used accord. Planning on spending less than 10K CDN (~7K USD). Been browsing the used ads, and have a few questions..

-Any years to avoid, or are they all generally good ?

-What is the typical engine life of an accord ? e.g. '90 accord with 188,000 KMS. Much life left for that car ?

-It's more expensive, but would i be better off financing for a new civic ?

-Would like to get a manual transmission, anything extra to know about this like clutch plate replacements ?

Would appreciate any feedback for a newbie..thanks

I'm a newbie as well, but here's my 2 cents.

With 10K CDN, You should be able to buy anywhere between 94 and 98(high mi.). I would go for 5th gen (94-97) accord. I heard they are better build than 6th gen.

I would say engine life is about 200,000mi for marginally abused engine. but it's all depended on how well previous owner took care of the car. My friend's Acc. lasted over 250,000mi (meter died).

New civic's about 15000, but if you can afford it, go for it. unless you need mid size for hauling kids and stuff..

I'm not a techie, so I know nothing about MT. Sorry.

It's not much of help, hope this gets you started.

Great post, and welcome to HAN  My 98 Accord V6 has 110k and feels like a new car, aside from a slightly softer suspension and some creaks where I raped the roof and put a moonroof in. I wouldn't say the 5th gen is built better than the 6th gen, it all depends on what you get.

I would think a 94-97 Accord Coupe 5 speed would be your best bet
