Default 97 accord dashboard creak - help

Hi,

my 97 accord ex coupe with 59,000 miles now developed a really annoying noise coming either from the right side of the dashboard or the right passenger door. It is a loud, cracking noise that seems to be worse when it is warm and sunny outside. I could not find the source of it yet, and I also cannot reproduce it, it only occurs when the cars is moving and with it the dashboard. I suspect some brittle plastic or something like that making the noise.
My car is already 6 years old, but still that should not happen. Does anybody have an idea how I can get Honda to cover at least part of the cost? Is there maybe some general issue with these dashboards? Does anybody know the source of this noise? Any help appreciated?

I would suggest you have someone drive your car while you ride shotty and determine were the noises are coming from. Every car is different so the places where you hear creaks and squeaks will be different as well. It could be anything from loose screws, loose glove box hinges, or something that just needs a little duct tape to shut it up. I have a 96 and I hear creaks and squeaks all the time. Its normal for a car to do that as it ages. No biggie for me, just pump up the volume and Im good to go.

I have the same thing. I can place my hand on the flat part of the dash just below the airbag & it goes away if I put my hand on it.. someday I will go ahead and take the time to get in there.. not a quick DIY.

Default fixed

ok,

it annoyed me so bad today i actually looked into it. the noise comes from the right main airvent... this thing is brittle somehow... i jammed a piece of cardboard in there that maintains pressure on the vent... it is not gone completely, but a lot better!

thanks for everybody's help,
sascha
