Intake Questions... cont'd.
These were brought up in another thread... just trying to get some input/info.
Ok I just installed my AEM CAI... now...
Would it work for me to cap off the hose line that goes into the intake, and put a breather filter on the top of the engine valve cover?
Would it be ok for me to do the same with that pipe near the fuel rail, behind the engine, to replace that ghetto peice of foam that is shoved in there?
Thanks,
John

i had installed a breather on the line near the fuel rail 2 days after i installed my intake.. and that was 2 years ago. i never had any problems with it but i asked the same question about putting a breather on the valve cover hole. i also want to know if there are any advantages to caping off the intake and placing the breather on the valve cover.
Okay, Here's what I've been informed about what should be done.
There're 5 major pars: 3 Lines that runs together between the intake and the Engine, and One Infamous Black box
1. the Top line is the FIA line which should be inserted with a small piece foam (act as a filter), because it DOES suckin LITTLE air, SHouldn't leave that open or capped.
2. The Middle line is the Breather, it SHOULD and MUST be connected from the Intake to the Valve cover.
3. The bottom Water Hose should be Leave as it is. If you insisted on taking off ALL those 3 lines and connect the hoses separately, then you should connect the water hose properly.
4. Cap off the line that runs from the back of the Engine that enventually run to the intake manifold.
5. Take off that LITTLE ROUND BLack box (located near the OEM Big Filter box). It's the one that connected all those small hoses together: remove those hoses, take that Little Round Black Box out, and seal that power line that runs to it. Its purpose is to send info or whatever to the ECU which you don't need anymore because you took out the OEM intake system
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

All sounds correct to me... but antifreeze runs through that water hose as well. Hrmm, I'm still want to know about breather filters for those two spots... like I said... Is this what they are made for?
BTW, all the hoses that go to that little black box, including the one that you cap, the one that you put the foam in, and the one that runs to the front of the car, all which plug into the solenoid... are part of the FIA system.
