wheels/springs for looks.. yeah.. ima poser:(
hey all..
i've been browsing this board for a while.. love this stuff.. but im to broke to actually do anything nice to my little 'cord. So I'm thinking about doing a simple drop, some cheap-mid wheels, maybe some clears up front, thats about all.
So my questions are:
1) thoughts on decent wheels - not for racing, but will last.. prob 17s? maybe 18s if i can get away with it...
2) springs - mostly just for looks, i don't have to worry about snow or anythign, so basically just low enough to look good, and give it that fun sporty feel... along the same lines, will i need to replace the shocks too? again, going for cheap here, not racing.. sooo.. as long as they will last, the stocks seem like an ok ride to me..
yeah, i know.. i would LOVE to actually do some stuff to my car.. but i just don't have the cash.. so for now i'll settle for looking aight..
thanks!

btw, '95, lx, sedan.. if it matters.. thanks!

1) Koni Yellow Shocks
2) Ground control springs/sleeves.
3) 16-17 is best in my opinion. 18 just looks dumb and the tire-wall has to be short to compensate so your speedometer is right.
Remember, #3 is my opinion. Some people just try to be rap-ghetto and think "blingin' 18s" rule. Meh. I think they look too big.
Stock shocks will get you by for a while, but the lower you go the faster they could break. (Signified by the car bouncing non-stop) They just weren't made with lowering in mind, remember, honda made these cars as basic transportation and enviroment in mind. So yea... they cut corners on some parts. (SOHC, Shocks, Rims, etc.)
Now, your gonna need some tires, not sure on the sizes though to keep your speed gauge right, I'll let someone answer that one. But yea, just get some good-years or whatever. Nothing fancy.
Now if you were getting some Tein coil-overs or something I'd step up on the tires too. But for just looks, and no go, any ol' name brand tire will work just fine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Speed gauge thing explained:
Ok, now, lets say you get some 18 rims, over the stock 15 rims, ignore the tires for a second.
15 inches = 47 inches of travel per spin.
18 inches = 56.5 inches of travel per spin.
Now, your car is always going to spin the wheels the same amount of times, but one goes farther per spin. Meaning your gauge will be "slower" then your actual speed. Not good.
Say your going 65 down the expressway, now this might be exaggerated but, you could be doing 75 and get pulled over. See?
Now, this is were the tires come in, say a 15 inch rim, its not going to be 15 inches by the time you get to the threads. So, you get a tire that is shorter, for the 18s, and make it get as close as possible the width of the 15 w/tire.
See? This make sense to anyone? Or did I majorly FUBAR?

Who in the world would calculate wheel size and it's effect on the speedometer while KNOWINGLY ingoring the tire size? :slap:
Get what size you like. With 18's you can get the right overall diameter, it's just up to you whether you want a tire that thin. (which is fine really, you'll still have plenty of meat on the wheel)
In my opinion, you can get away with 17's on the 5th gens like yours. 18's look better though. With 6th gens, 18's are a must for me. 17's don't even look that much different from stock.
With a car as old as yours (no offense) I would recommend replacing the shocks. You don't have to go all out on Koni yellows if you are on a budget.
You also don't need Ground controls unless you want adjustability in ride height. Some name brand sport springs like H&R, Eibach, neuspeed would be sufficient.
And Newb101: do you really think my 18's are "bling-bling" ???
Nah they gotta be chrome dude.
hehe. I really like that spoke pattern though, nice choice, looks clean. (I hate chrome btw)
But I did include the tire size.
See?

Duh, but maybe he don't know which tire size to get.
If he got bigger rims without compensating with a smaller tire, he would go faster, I was merely explaining how that came to be.

Tell me how you are going to get bigger wheels WITHOUT "compensating with a smaller tire" as you say?
Do you think he would go into a tire place (or order on line) and they would sell him tires that were 195/60/18?I'm seriously not trying to mean, but come on.
first, here's a pic - keep in mind the pic was taken IMMEDIATELY after the car was lowered & the springs have settled-in about .75" lower f/r since then
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MxeTU0MQ%3D%3D
here's the specs:
motegi mr-7s in 17"
nitto 215/45/17 tires
eibach pro-kit 1.5" f/r drop
i paid $850 for the wheels & tires mounted & balanced
i gave $125 for the springs & another $75 to have them installed.
I wanted to go 18" (& could've for the same price), but i drive about 25k miles a year, so that would've been a new set of tires every 9-12 months & i couldn't swing it.
