I have a 6th Gen Accord with and auto and I shift the gears all the time on it no prob. The only thing I don't do is go from D or neutral to Reverse if the car is even rolling one bit. IMO reverse to D does no damage or else how could you do my favorite maneuver, the "J" turn? hehe
