Default question regardin timing..

hi everyone,
have a ? regarding timing, how do you know if your timing is off? and how do i go about checking this? my 97accord 2.2 is backfiring and its nothing ignition wise, ive changed and checked everything (plugs,cap,rotor,coil,dist, etc) jus wana know what are sum of the symptoms of bad timing and how i can go bout fixing this.

With a timing light. Your obd2 you have a obd2 connector located behind the ashtray. I think you might need to put a mastertech scanner or a generic scanner on there and it should tell you.
