Default Possibly Tranny problem please read!

Hello all my name is Andy and i just got a 1992 Accord EX for 400 bucks, its my first car and other than the tranny she seems pretty decent, ok here's the problem im having hopefully someone can help me out! i'm thinking it's the Transmission Control Module, now here's what its doing. when i put it in drive it will NOT shift to second gear, but if i drop it in first then push it up to second it shifts then i push it into D3 and it shifts again. same with D4 can anyone help me out here?. also is there anything i can do to get a diagnostic? I have a friend who is going to help me fix the car up, he frequents the forums.

Test your shift and lock up solenoids. If they check out it's probably the TCM. 4th gen had problems with fried resistors and leaky caps in the TCM.

Thanks a lot for the info. we do not have any kind of tools to read the codes or anything of that sort. i will hopefully be getting my hands on a TCM to test and see what happens. will keep updates posted as my friend makes progress on the car. again thanks a million!

We pulled some codes and the biggest problem we found was a "Transmission code 15". any advice on this?

I would pull the TCM and check it for burnt resistors or capacitors. You can either try to replace the bad components or just pick up a replacement TCM.

Some transmission shops will give a free diagnostic. They will drive around in the car and hook up a computer to check if the computer is giving off any errors. If it is the ecm they might be able to get a used one in good shape.
