Dead temp gauge....

Default Dead temp gauge....

my tempature gauge doesnt move at all, not sure where or what i should start checking first?? its been in the 90's here lately and i dont know if my car is overheating or not? it doesnt seem to be overheating, i never hear the coolant boiling over. also i noticed the rad cooling fan never comes on? the one over ac condensor comes on when you the ac though..........

do you have a multimeter? you could actually check the signal wire which is sent to the pcm then ultimately to your gauge cluster. if this is working, then i would say the problem is the gauge cluster.

well i noticed today, right when you start the car the temp needle jumps about an 1/8th of an inch then no other movement...... so maybe the gauge itself is ok or could that small jump just be from the car starting and causing enough vibration to move it slightly?
where do i locate the signal wire?

the temp sensor is called ECT sensor, should be located at the block below the distributor somewhere. it will be a 2wire sensor, one will be ground and the other is a 5v reference which changes as temp increases.

ok, which one is it? there are 2 under the distributor...is it the one in the rear or the one closer to the front?

i honestly dont know which one it is since im not physically there to look at the car. so i suggest you go to the closest shop and just ask a mechanic which of the 2 is the ect sensor.
