The stupid door doesn't stay shut. Before I rip apart the console to get it out anyone know if it is just a spring that is not connected or an easy fix?

 

This is just a guess. I've never seen the console of an '04. I've got a 91 with an arm-rest/console thingy. On mine, the mounting holes on the hinge are cut as a slot, not a hole. This allows the lid portion to be slid forward or backward if the hinge screws were to be loosened. It will only move about 3/16 of an inch but that is enough to put more tension on the little latch post. I've had to readjust the thing several times over the years to correct the same problem you are describing. I don't know if your's works the same way but it's worth a look/see.
I hope this is an easy fix for you. Removing the console usually isn't difficult but neither is it fun. I never look forward to it.
