Dynamat, Fatmat, Brown Bread...???
I've decided to go ahead and look into sound deadening my car as much as I can...I'd like to do the trunk, rear panel, and doors. For a 95 Accord Sedan...about how much material would I need? 100 sq ft? More/less?
Who has done this to their car...can you give me some tips and instructions? What tools and stuff would I need...where to stick everything...i'm basically completely new to this stuff...but defintely willing to put the effort into doing it myself.
One last thing, there are a couple brands out there, with Dynamat being the most well known and therefore expensive...how about brown bread, fat mat, raamat...all these...what do people recommend? best value? best performance? longest lasting? Any suggestions would be nice...thanks fellas!

I'm only half kidding. The noise is the typical exhaust growl that Hondas seem to exhibit when accelerating (what happened to the pleasant free-reving whine of hondas past?), but mine seems extra loud so I was hoping to find an exhaust leak somewhere.
So I hooked a microphone to a powered speaker and positioned the mike at various spots in the engine compartment. As you'd expect, I got a lot of sound coming from the exhaust manifold area, but not from any specific spot. The big surprise was when I placed the mike over the valve cover gasket. WOW, that was noisy. And it wasn't just valve ticking, it was an "exhausty" sound.
Since I can't do anything about the source, I'm planning on insulating the car with Quiet Car from www.quietsolution.com. It is a compound you 'paint' on to the metal and it converts the sound in to heat, rather than letting it propagate through the metal.
One $240 5 gallon container should do most interior surfaces of the car in 3 coats. I'm thinking the interior of the engine compartment and under the hood will be the most important. Next will be the tire wells and then doors. I may do the floorboards if I'm not satisfied.
The reason I'm going this route is ease of application and better coverage than with mats (unless you get REAL precise with cutting the mats). I'm also told it is cheaper.
I'm not sure when I'll get started on this, but I'll be sure to post the results! Sorry, I don't have any measuring equipment to give objective results. Although, Quiet Solution has some pretty amazing clips on their website.
I am in the process of deadening my 94 right now. I bought a rool of teh Raammat and i love it. I work for an audio install shop and i liek this stuff as much if not more than Dynamat. Such a good deal. I will probably go through 2 rolls o the stuff to do the entire car. I am quite anal when it comes to that so it could be done with less. My vote goes with the Raammat. You wont be disappointed.
Yea i heard good reviews on that myself. I have dynamat sitting in the garage for ages. It's only enough for the front doors though. I should use it. But i'm too lazy to take out the custom made baffles i made for the door panels.
sry to jump the thread...but i got a lot of questions too...cuz my baby's really loud...where can i get raamat...how much will i need...how much will that cost...and how will i get this done...like what do i do...sry...never really thought about this too much to get the research and all that done
Dynomat and i guess Raammat is like a BIG sticker ahhaha you cut it into the shape you want and stick it on the body of the car. not sure how much they cost i saw a roll at the audio store for 20.00, didnt look like much (enough to do 2 doors?).
