Check Engine Light - Evap Canister?
The light on my girl's 99 Accord V6 came on again (constant problem) and so she took it to honda again. They said this time it was that the evap canister needs to be replaced? Just curious if anyone has done this before.
Did they just read the error code? If so, it could still be the canister or any of maybe 4 or 5 valves or a pressure sensor in that system. Or a leaky vacuum hose.
We just had error 1457 in the '98 Accord & there's a whole troubleshooting process to check each part of that system. Ours turned out to be a $36 valve attached to the canister. The EVAP canister is underneath the car just forward of the gas tank. Roughly under the LR seat cushion. That's an I-4, I don't know how different the V-6 would be.
What's that about "constant problem"? Have they just been throwing parts at it without actually testing the parts?

Thanks for the reply. It was coming on and going off for a while, tightening the gas cap always seemed to fix it. Recently I reset it when it came on to see if it would stay off, when it came on she brought it to honda. They hooked it up and that was the specific code. They said for $200 they would fix it so I said just give me the sheet and I'll take care of it on my own. I was just curious if anyone had similar problem since these emissions things always run me around in circles.
Thanks

For DIY, your basic tools should include a Helm manual, a MityVac, a DMM, & some jumper wires. You'll be crawling underneath, so you better have jackstands.
edit...
Around here, the local AutoZoned or other parts stores will read the code for free, too. Get them to tell you the code number. Ours was mfg. specific, too, but he still saw the number, said it had something to do with a loose gas cap. I wrote down the number, & it WAS listed in the Helm manual.

I was going to have AutoZone read it but she also had a recall and when I had a mechanic read the code he said it was Honda specific. So I figured if I could get a correct answer from anyone it would have been Honda.
