Default Catalytic Converter for 2001 Accord EX

My catalytic converter needs to be replaced. It has a seriously loud rattling sound. Several mechanics from different shops have said it's the converter, not just a heat shield.

I don't have to worry about it passing emissions certification as there's no testing here in Kentucky.

Based on what I've found by searching here the Honda OEM part is too expensive and not really needed. Is that still correct?

I'm not interested in DIY. I'll probably take it to a local muffler shop or other service guy. My regular independent mechanic recommended I take it to a muffler shop where they could weld in a generic cat.

Are there bolt-in replacements for my car?

I don't need anything fancy.

muffler shop is your best bet and correct, the oem cat is very expensive but far more superior than muffler shop cats.

Look for possible ones that are 50 state legal, unless you're in a california. Magnaflow makes good OEM replacement ones that do not require a heat shield.
