Default Egr?

My check engine light came on a few days ago and I took it to the dealer, who said there was some carbon buildup in the EGR and there would be no charge. Please excuse my ignorance, but what is EGR and is what the dealer told me correct?

I remember receiving a letter from Honda explaining some kind of warranty extension but do not remember exactly what it was for, was it for this sort of problem or did they extend the bumper to bumper?

Thanks in advance everybody!!!!!!!

This would mean that EGR valve does not provide exhaust gas recirculation ie does not open its port when it suppose to (normaly at highway speeds ).
Either EGR solenoid is dead or the EGR port is clogged with build up.

Take your car to Honda dealer, most 6gen Accords are covered by recall issued in fall of 2001 up to 80K miles

If you mix a little bit of exhaust gas in with the intake charge, it lowers combustion temperatures. That lowers NOx without raising CO & HC. Most engines need just a little bit of this to pass emmissions. Your ECU opens & closes the EGR valve, but if the EGR ports are plugged with crud, then it doesn't work...
