Hey guys, I need some help.....i got a 87 accord dx 4cyl. carb.....what happens is...i can get the car to start for about 3 - 5 seconds (sometimes).....but immediatly afterwards....it just dies and shuts off....I checked the spark plug wires and they all seem to be intact and theres no apprearence of a messed up distributor....i dont know if the freakin car has cams or not, but when the oil cap is removed, i do see some movement inside so if there is infact a timing belt, it seems to be intact.....any other ideas as to what it could be??? PLZ help me asap..thanks alot.

 

your fuel injection relay is shot. same thing happened to my 88. Go to 3geez.com and do a search for "main relay" or my username "95AccordEXR" and that will bring up all the info you need. Good luck.

Have you checked the fuel pump yet? this may be a possibility.

Remove the fuel line up front and have someone hold a cup or whatever under it and may sure you are getting fuel delivery. If it isn't then first check the fuel filter then the pump (filter is cheaper so work your way up).

 

ya...i was thinking it has to be something due to the fuel.....but whats weird is...it will start up...be normal for a couple seconds...then just shut off outa no where...like some electrical surge or something.....really weird...ill check the filter and pump, and the REALAY? hmmm i guess ill have to check that too...but how?
