Default what offset

I have a 98 honda accord sedan. i want to buy the volk gtp wheels in 18X8, if i had 225-40-18 tires could i tuck the tires a little bit without rubbing extremely bad or crushing my fender. i have coilovers and right now my drops about 2 1/4 inch and i dont rub. i was wondering if i got a smaller offset if it would prevent me from rubbing so much. Also what determines how deep the lip would go in.

The higher the offset, the more the wheel sits inside the wheel well. Stock on our cars is +55. My 18x7.5's are +45, I have no rubbing. When I jack up the front of my car, the rear tires tuck. But I have a little uncorrected negative camber that helps tuck a little bit. I'd go higher offset if you can, I know my buddy rubs a little with 42.

But I can't say for sure with an 8" wheel and 40 offset...my guess is you'd rub. Anyway you can have a similiar wheel bolted up to your car to check?

allright thanks, the reason i wanted to put 18x8 is not for wider tires, but i want the lip to be more deep dish and i know the wider the wheel on the gtp's the deeper the lip, does offset have anything to do with the deepness of the lip?

Yeah, I know what you mean about the lip.
Check this:

Overview:

How to measure offset:

So the lip does make the wheel wider, but the main determinate of offset is the relation of the hub mounting surface of the wheel compared to the center of the wheel width. So yes, the lip makes a difference, but only because it makes the wheel wider. See how in that last diagram the spokes go inward, creating the lip. So spoke angulation can create or obliterate a lip, depending on the angle.

For more info go here:

Hope that helps a little.

I am not sure about getting a rear camber kit if i get 18x7.5" +43mm rims and H&R Sports.

I know for sure that a person I know has a 1.85" drop with coilovers and 18x7.5" +42mm wheels rubs a little with rear camber correction. I gueess I should get the rear camber kit and see how far it can be adjusted before it rubs.

camber correction doesnt really help prevent rubbing. It just adjusts the wheel's camber so the tires are more upright and wear out evenly. For sure, 1.85 inch drop with +42mm offset is going to rub. That is a hands on experience that ive had.

and for 6thgenaccord01, Damn, u must be loaded up the a$$ to be able to afford 18" Rays engineering wheels.....i envy you anyways, as jschmid said, go with a higher offset. I know volk makes rims with 45 offset for every wheel so try to stick to +45mm offset. And also, make sure to post pics of the 18" volk wheels on ur accord. Im sure many are dying to see that. Good luck.

allright appreciate the feedback, with a 45 offset you think 18X8 will be possible. it will be a while before the wheels are on about to have my turbo put on but ill have pix of both.

18*8 with a +40 offset isn't gonna be pretty, that's just askin for it. I have 18*7.5 with a +42 offset and I rub on occasion with people in the back seat, but nothing major, but if I was dropped more I'm sure it would be much more of a problem. Even +42 is a little low, I'd get at least a +45 if you can find a wheel that has that offset. Seems like all the nicer wheels have lower offsets.
