The wattage rating issue is a common misconception. If you purchase an aftermarket radio, regardless of the wattage, it will work just fine with your existing speakers. I'd recommend getting new ones just because the OEM honda ones, like most OEM, totally suck.

Speakers usually end up blowing because there is too little wattage not too much. Cranking the volume up on a low wattage stereo will send a poor quality signal to the speakers resulting in distortion and ultimatly blowing or damaging the speakers. With a high quality unit, the signal will be a lot more clear and less likely to cause damage to your speakers at higher volumes. You're more likely to blow speakers using the crappy OEM Honda head unit than a good aftermarket stereo.

But yeah, you might want to look into replacing the speakers for the quality issue. The sound will be 20X better than the honda speakers.

I think that the doors are like 30 max and 6x9s are like 80 or 100 max. I cant really remember but something along that range.
Whatever head unit you buy will work just fine with the stock speakers. But thats the problem they will just sound fine. get some new speakers and youll be way happier. I got some Polk DBs in my 2000 Accord

agreed, I craved much more when I drove daily using the stock deck/speakers.

I have the generation before this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1216424485905 with a set of 280w speakers in the door/rear.

Massive upgrade and very noticeable, they even shake the mirrors without a amp.
