Default Rattle and knock noise on cold engine?

Hey guys, I have a 99 Accord V6 with about 98K and have a question. The engine will make a rattle or knockin type sound when the engine is cold, it's seems more on a day of 50F or less, and it's not a constant noise but it will rattle for a second then go away, then again and so forth. It's hard to tell exactly where the noise is coming from but sounds like it's on the driverside of the engine compartment. It started doing this about a year or so ago, I have had the valve clearances checked and adjusted and have done routine maintenance also. I have read some threads on here suggesting that it could be lifters but this can't be because it has no lifters on it, SOHC which has the cam, rockers and valves but no lifters. The noise will continue but for no longer than a minute, and does not do it again until it sits over night and it's completely cold again. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? If you need any other info please just ask, thanks.

I have a 2000 2.3 liter that does the same thing. I think it is most likely the oil has settled to the pan and the upper end is noisy until the oil gets pumped throughout. I am just a shadetree mechanic so I could be wrong. I have 162,000 miles on mine so things have worn a little and are noisier.

It's hard to diagnose a noise over an internet forum. I was concerned when I noticed the rattle/clicking when I start up but found it was normal among most 6th gen owners, especially with the 4 banger. I don't know much about the 6. Are you consuming any oil or coolant?

I have a '98 LX sedan (4 cylinder) with 115k miles and it does the same thing, normally for the first few minutes when it's cold out.

you're not putting premium gas in your engine, are you?

the combustion rate will f-up the timing.
