Default Reset "Check Engine" Light; will it return?

On my '96 Accord I got a Check Engine Light; diagnosed it at a cat converter problem (code 67). I recall recently scraping the exhaust system on a speed bump and thought maybe this had something to do with it. I reset the light and so far it hasn't come back on.

If my cat is indeed bad, will the light eventually return or by resetting the light have I now permanently eliminated any warning signs of its failure?

BTW, The car has nearly 250K miles; how long can I expect the cat to last? I'm impressed it's lasted THIS long!

If the same fault or condition that led to the first CEL happens again, it will again be stored and trigger the light.

Variety of things can affect the life of something like the cat., for ex. burning large amounts of oil may reduce it's lifespan. Not sure what is considered the typical longevity.
