I was wanting to disable my power antenna for the winter..It froze today and wouldn't go up...so I want to put it up and leave it up so i doesn't damage it at all...got a '95..wondering how to disable the antenna so it will always stay up.
If u have an aftermarket stereo what u can do is once the and antenna is up you could cut (the blue and white wire) for the power antenna. Or wait when the antenna is up and cut the antenna power wire
I wouldn't suggest leaving it up... try leaving it down first and see what kind of reception you get... it might barely if even make a difference... in some areas this is true. When it is always up there is a good chance of it getting broken or bent... which sucks. Either from car washes, trees, kids, punks, etc.
cutting wires???
if you pull the trunk lining away on the driver's side, you'll find the power antenna motor. there is a power cable going to the motor, and a cable that actually goes to the antenna (for reception). if you unplug the power cable going to the motor, it will disable it.
i got an antenna mast from ebay. it was the wrong part, but the idiot seller was too proud to admit it, even tho it obviously just wouldn't fit my car (no mods, no after market antennae or motors or stereos). he gave me some BS like "well, sir, occaisionally we get a japanese imported car, and the antenna is a little different"... yeah, good explanation, dumbass.
anyways, the antenna mast from the dealer is three times as expensive as one off ebay. if you can get one from ebay thats the right part, go for it. to fix it, you probably have to remove the motor from the trunk, and open it up. you need to make sure there are no teeth still stuck inside the motor that broke off of the antenna mast. there were some in mine. now, taking the motor out is a pain. its hard to put it back exactly the way it was, too. at least i think so. it seems like i can't get it to bolt on as high as it used to be, and as secure. but it works.
