does it really matter what kind of springs or coilovers you use for your ride. I personally have a 96 accord. Are all springs the same and ****, or is it the shocks that you put on the car is what makes or brakes the ride. can someone help me out in really knowing what the big deal with the different brand springs and coilovers are out there does it all really matter. All i want is a nice lowered car with a smooth ride. I also am running 17's what is a good drop on some 17's. what is better coilovers or springs, will coilovers slip as you drive you know hit a pothole or something and your coilovers perch or might slip or something. can someone just give me a full run down. also what is a full coilover kit mean.

 

full coilover kit = spring and shock combo

coilovers and springs each have their pro's and con's. if you get coilovers, you can adjust the your ride height until your happy with it. with springs, you'd be pretty much set. there are a lot of knockoff coilovers out there, thats why i prefer name brand springs (H&R, eibach, neuspeed, etc)

i doubt that coilovers will slip (if installed correctly, but thats why i prefer springs also)

i think the only reason why people get different brand springs is because each lowers different. some will be 1.75, some will be 1.5, etc. just get a set with the desired number of inches you wanna lower.

and yes, if you get a good set of aftermarket shocks, i think u'd have a good ride with any set of springs/coilovers. if you want an even better ride (at any height), get the full coilover kit.

adjustable or non-adjustable is really up to you. some people like to have the ability to adjust the ride (firm or soft). but if you get adjustable, its gonna cost you more.

here are some shocks off the top of my head.

koni yellow (adjustable, the best)
KYB AGX (adjustable, 2nd best in my opinion)
koni red
KYB GR2 (i think thats what its called)
tokico blues
tokico illuminas
bilstein (i'm not familiar with the specific models that bilstein has)

most people will reccomend the first 2.

 

Yes, the kind of springs you get matters a great deal......avoid aerospeed, apc, pilot, any cheap parts or cheap coilovers. Shocks only compliment the springs, crappy springs with even the best shocks is gonna be a bad ride, and then you have eventual sagging problems from cheap springs, things like that. Koni yellows are the best shocks made, followed up by tokico illuminas (which are much better than KYB in my opinion)....having the adjustability is nice, but I can honestly say I have only adjusted my illuminas ONCE since I got them, and it's been close to six months now. But it is nice to have the option, but certainly not neccessary.

 

so say i go with some koni yellows right. would ground control coilovers be a good match. what do you think, also what is a site where i can get koni yellow shocks for a 96 accord
