Default valve cover question

ive always wondered this, but what is the valve cover on my 94 lx made of? like the material. is it like a metal with some sort of coating on it? the coating looks almost like plastic or rubber. but i doubt that rubber would be feasable because of the heat. anyone know what material(s) its made of? obtw i was thinking of painting it but what colors would look the best? i have a champagne accord. there nothing really aftermarket under my hood right now except a cone filter on my stock intake pipe. i have a CAI in the mail which is like a powdercoated silverish champagne color, based on the picture i saw of it when i ordered it.

aluminum alloy with black crinkle paint. you can sand it off, and have if polished, or you can powder coat/paint to match your cai

even most high po engines aren't all aluminum...a lot still use iron to disapate heat. (I think anyway)

Good for weight reduction though.

Painting it is easy. since its a 94 i'd get a new valve gasket. to paint you'll need the following

high heat paint .. i think i got something over 500F .. i want to say 1000f but i could be wrong. it was way up there.

valve gasket

torque wrench .. if you have a 4cyl in the 94 it will be 7lbs of torque i believe...don't over do it, it can cause some major problems for you..not tightening it enough will cause oil to leak..i had it go in to my spark plugs..

you'll need some sealant.

a haynes manual can tell you how to take off the valve cover and where to place the sealant on the gasket.

Good luck, and post some pictures if you paint it!
