Default Problem With Heater

I thought maybe you guys could help me out here. My sister's 94 Accord EX will not put out any heat when it is cold outside. Even after a 25 minute drive (1/2 hwy & 1/2 city) the car still would not kick out any heat. The temperature gauge goes up a little when it the car is sitting at a stop light but the the temperature gauge sits almost at rock bottom on the hwy. Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks

i would also say "busted thermostat" on the needle thing, but it still doesn't explain the heater issue.

actually it would. if the coolant isnt getting hot, ie the thermostat is stuck open, then the heater core isnt gettting any hot water to heat the car.

check your coolant level and for any leaks if there is a low coolant level. if the coolant is low, the temp will rise when the car is sitting. Also, if there is not enough coolant in the system, there may be just enough to cool the engine but not enough to reach the heater core. Also, when checking for leaks, see if the heater core(on the passeger side dash i believe) is dumping any fluid.

if it was dumping fluid the windshield would steam up & major smell of antifreeze. check the thermostat, it could be stuck open.

is air blowing at all? if not then fan motor went bad

I appreciate the advice from you guys!!! I checked the coolant level before I posted because I knew that the coolant is part of the cabin heating system. How can I check to see if the thermostat is stuck open? Also, if the thermostat is stuck open do I need to replace it and is it easy to replace (i.e. can I replace it on my own)???

Thanks
