You're really pushing it for a decent radar for $150... all the one's that I have experience with are like toys... they don't work... if anything, I'd use that $150 and add your own money and pick up a good radar.

I bought a V1, decided that over the Escort, but wither one of those is good. I have no regrets buying the V1, it really works and I'm amazed.

I bought one from Radio shack like 4 years ago for like $100 and it is still going good. My friend had the exact same one and decided to get rid of it. He bought an expensive one and it worked much more poorly than the one from Radio Shack.
I believe the brand of the one i bought was SWS :dunno:

I don't purposely speed, but sometimes i might drift to 10 mph over limit. My friend got pulled going 56 in a 45 WHILE DOWN A HILL. Just wanna make sure i don't get screwed by the cops cuz they don't need a radar reading to give you a ticket...

I've used my V1 going on 3 years now and have never gotten a moving violation...I usually go between 10-20 MPH over the limit. It works extremely well. I actually drive more carefully (slower) since I have gotten the V1...probably because I now realize how many cops are out there. Radar detectors provide no invincibility.

if you get one dont think it will always tell u that theres a cop all the time. you also have to use some sense and look ahead.
for example i was doin around 80 in a 55 on a open highway with some people behind me doun the same then i noticed a car pullin onto the side of the road about 1/2 a mile ahead n then into some bushes so i slowed down 2 around 65 while the other cars were passin me. the radar detecotor didnt go off until i came real close and then laser went off like 2 times and the cop pulled out and pulled over one of the other cars
i have a bel that retails for around 300 not sure what model but in real good especially kuz it has the letter display instead of just some lights that tell u what kinda of radar it is

Open open highways like that, most cops will be using lasers which is harder for a radar dectector to pick up. I never drive on open highways but always see cops sitting on sidestreets holdin up their radar guns...

In 3 years or so of my V1, I've encountered maybe 10 laser blips. probably 5 were false. And this is driving through the highways of NY, PA, and MA. Lasers are a bish to use and are really expensive. Around here, 95% of cops have Ka. Laser isn't exactly "harder" for a detector to pick up, it's just that the laser beam is so narrow and the odds of it reflecting off a sign or other thing is minimal. Plus the laser gun cannot always be on like a radar gun. I don't worry about laser very much at all.

Laser guns are a "direct shot" which means the gun basically has to be aimed right at the radar detector in order for it to detect - basically it means that by the time the detector detects it, its too late, you've already been clocked.

Also, some cops will just pace you and get you that way - no radar involved.

I've gotten tickets from both of those before. I have a radar detector (a Cobra I got for cheap - I'm a Best Buy employee) and I don't find it to be that great of an investment - it picks up so much random crap...it beeps when I pass radio or cell phone antennas and certain stores and banks. Too many false alarms.

I personally can't justify spending 300+ dollars on a radar detector. I'd rather just pay the 100 dollar ticket and 30 bucks to take the class so my insurance isn't affected. Or just stop speeding. If you're that concerned, by a cheap one like I did and all the false alarms will make you paranoid into slowing down
