What grade of gas do you use?
#12
a common misunderstanding is that the higher the number, the better it is, considering it is more expensive. Your engine is designed to run 87 so use 87, using a higher grade gas is not only a waste of money, it actually does not perform as well in your engine.

When I use 87 I hear a "pinging" noise in my engine when accelerating above 4000. When using 92, I hear nothing. I've used mid grade (89) as soon as I bought the car and switched to premium. Is it possible that because I've used a higher octane gas from the time the car was new that the ECU has gotten used to the higher octane and now doesn't like regular gas? I know it sounds stupid, but I'm telling you guys, I hear pinging when I use 87.

no becuz we hav knock sensors, but start using 87 for the next 3 tanks, the ECU will relearn. the season is changing so it'l be another month before all the gas is used up & reconverted/refined for winter use.

If you use a higher octane for a long time, the car is worse off with lower octanes, two of my friends bought their car from family members that were mis-informed and used high octane, and now their cars wont work off lowers... yes thats right, they completely wont work.
And btw, BP is the same as Amoco bud.
