Default 84 Accord TOO MUCH FUEL! Help!

1984 Honda Accord Hatchback, 5 speed, 12 valve.

I traded my 79 Dodge van for this car, and the guy I got it from put a new fuel pump on it because he said it had a "dead spot" in the idle, or when it was running.

It ran recently, up until the fuel pump change he said. Also he adjusted a screw next to the breather in attempts to fix the fuel problem.

When it runs now, it only runs very briefly, and white smoke bellows out the tailpipe.

It is getting LOTS of gas, it floods to the point where it wont run.

Gas fills the carb and runs into the cylinders.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

And fix suggestions?

Thanks

M

Sounds like a dead fuel pressure regulator.
Confirm proper fuel pressure at the carburettor.

I wish I had the exact pressure spec on hand, but it's been a decade since I've seen a carb'd Honda. As such, I'm much more familiar with fuel injected motors. h:

Float valve doesn't close properly? Float sunk?
