Default HELP!! Check Engine Code P1491 Autozone doesnt even know what this is!

Hello,

I have a 1999 Honda Accord LX 4Cyl. The CEL is coming on, reset it, came back on. Took it to AutoZone, they read off a code P1491 (Secondary Switch Solenoid Circuit Malfunction). The AutoZone guy didnt know what this was. I've tried searching on this site and the internet and cant find anything on this!? Anyone had this?

Only thing that rings a bell is the VTEC solenoid. Did you give your local Honda dealer a call or go look in an auto repair manual at the library or a book store? I really have no idea

try your honda dealer....they specialize in hondas so they should be able to tell you what the problem is, whereas autozones see all different makes and models every day.

If it is the VTEC solenoid, it should be around $55 from your local dealer.

I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer ($$$), that's why I posted on this board. I'm going to run the codes myself with the paperclip/reading computer LED method to see what code I get. The car is out of warranty, hence I want to save money and do it myself. Thanks for the help so far.

Check it out and read it your self. you read the binks on the engine check light it self. After you figure out what the code is go to google.com and search for engine check codes for your car. Or just come back and post what code you got. I'll look it up for you.

Thanks for the help guys! I ran the code myself and it flashed off a "12". So, I guess this is EGR? Does this pertain to a certain part that i can replace myself or is it the system. I really dont want to go pay big bucks at the dealer if I can change some sensor out and be fine.

Thanks

The EGR is located in the headers...I'm not sure if you can replace it yourself easily, but the dealer did it very quickly. The part is the expensive thing...it retails at like 120 bucks I THINK. It may be a bit lower, I'm not sure.
