Default Mileage and Req'd Maintenance?

With my 105,000 mile service coming soon, is the service really needed at 105,000 (timing chain, spark plugs, checks and inspections) or can I wait a bit longer.

(I plan on doing the plugs myself)

2005 Accord V6 with 98,000.

anybody with any insight?

WOW. You drive quite a bit.

The timing belt, water pump, and all drive belts are serviced at 80K.

At 100K, I suggest doing the spark plugs along with all fluids. (brake, power steering, radiator, etc)

Of all the service items on the table, I'd make damn sure the timing belt has been replaced. If you're 20K over on that belt replacement, get it done immediately.

If it fails, you're in for a world of hurt.

Compared to the cost of replacing the motor, you are far better off replacing the belt if there is any doubt at all.
If you don't have a receipt proving the belt was replaced on time, assume it wasn't.

If the belt snaps, pistons and valves will collide with wallet-demolishing consequences.

In the Honda service guide that came with the car, the timing belt is said to be part of the 105,000 miles services.

but

If what you are saying is true, could have it been preformed at the 90,000 miles service from the dealership by chance?

I have no receipts for any of the previous services done on the car, only the Carfax stating that services were done at the dealership at seemingly timely intervals.

As someone said before - if you're unsure if the timing belt has been changed, get it changed. There's no way to tell when the belt is going to go. You'll have to lay out a little bit of money now but it's better than laying out a lot of money later to have the engine fixed not to mention towing and renting a car.

I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner got rid of it specifically because he was coming up on the time to change the belt. Some people would rather trade in and get a new car then pay to have the belts changed. Doesn't make much sense to me but I guess someone has to buy new cars.

About 1/10th to 1/20th the cost of rebuilding or replacing the motor once the timing belt snaps due to old age.
