Default I need some serious exhaust advice

I'm going to take my car to Midas on Thursday to get an OEM muffler put on because the APC universal i put on my self(i know, i know madd ghetto) is garbage, so my question is that the guy said over the summer something about putting in a hi-flow cat and that it would sound good and not be that loud
The Ravin performance system is what its called I think
let me know if i need to do that or should i just get the muffler and thats it
thanks

Hmmm, APC coming off, is it? I met a guy up here with an APC, he said it sounded like a lawn mower (kind of did). He really preferred the sound of mine -- a few said they thought it sounded like a Greddy. I think it's a Tenzo with custom piping -- "I think" because it was added by the guy before me. If you're going for performance, a hi-flow catback will be much better than just a muffler.

If your in to performance... Get a High-Flow Cat AND Either a Real Cat-Back System or a Performance Muffler with custom cat-back piping bent and welded at a local shop... Thats what I have. My favorite brand is Magnaflow, Ive heard it on many cars and it is an extremely deep low sound... NOT ricey at all.

let see, this is what I did to my EX

1/. My cousin's Shop's back yard - same 5th Gen Catalytic Converter.

2/. Poke through it and removed all the "stuff" inside => free High Flow Cat. - FREE

3/. Replace it over my current one + HKS Dragger Muffler ($155 - 20% discounted off Nopi's WHOLESALE) + Custom Mendrel 2.5 Pipe Bending of the Rear end ($45)=>perfect High flow Cat back system: Enough Back Pressure => max increase in HP.

4/. Emission Check? plug my old Cat Converter back on

TOTAL = $200

Last time I heard, someone on this board told me that adding a highflow cat would decrease you back pressure and cause you too lose torque with a high performance catback on. Is this true??

Well, unless it's forced induction, you're only going to lose HP. Modern engines are designed for some amount of backpressure. If you remove it all, you'll find that you actually lose power.

True that. also, those 4 bannger with loudass 3" piping CAT back HAVE NO torque or HP gain at all.

My Setup is Perfect for my Car and My Mods (H22A + Bolts on and stuffs). High flow Cat converver let all the air through, then there's a LIL filter in the MID section will "pressurized all the High flow AIR". Then the 2.5" Rear end will be perfect for ALL that pressure to be released and yet give it maximun Torque and HP gain. My cousin and His friend work with performance car for over 30 years and they know their stuff.

My setup is 100% safe and ready for Turbo or N2O (even though I don't know much about these) but my cousin said that my Catback system has the same design as Misfiring system where they fire off massive Pressure and give the car massive increase Torque when u SLAMMED on the GAS pedal. here're the side to it, for Turbo, this System can help Eliminates the FLAWS and DISADVANTAGE during TURBO LAGS. when it's TURBO LAGs, your car loose TORQUE and ACCELERATION. By having this set up, it'll Give your Car BACKUP Pressure + acceleration when ur TURBO reach it max.

here're a Simple Explaination:

Front End = GIVE MASSIVE AIR FLOW.
MID FIlter = BLOCK AIR and PRESSURIZE
REAR END = 2.25" - 2.5" Piping for 180-280 HP cars will FIRE Massive Pressure generated in the Front End

The thing you want to do is to optimize your exhuast airflow velocity.
It's not that you need backpressure. Those ppl that put in bigger piping do lose torque b/c the velocity of the airflow is slower then stock in the low rpms. So they go complain about "I need backpressure!" blah blah.. But in the higher rpms, you gain more hp then before.
Poohboi's example is good at showing this also.

old system:
3" custom straight pipe w/ no cat convter... very loud but a nice low tone no can of bees sound at all. it worked wonders but my car lagged in the low RPMs but once i was moving it was on. i got alot of gains from it... would have been better if i had a turbo piping was too wide

new system:
2.5" custom piping w/ megaflow muffler (wanted different muffer bug got it for free) still no cat convter. my exhaust was lower sounding but still very loud during normal driving and louder during VTEC. my lower RPM had better response without giving up too much power when compared to other system
