Default Stalling Issue, at wit's end, someone help!

So here is my problem, please bear with me.
I recently got a 98 accord EX, 4 cyl, 2.3, 4 door, A4 engine code, VTEC, Ca. emission ULEV.
It has a very clean and well maintained engine. I decided to do a few things to it since it was used. I changed the fuel filter in the tank first of all. After I did this, I went to Jiffy Lube and had them do a fuel system cleaning. After I drove off, the check engine light went on and I went back to have them check it out. The code came back as having a too rich fuel mixture, a fresh tank of gas fixed that problem. After a couple of weeks, the light came on again, this time it came back as a P1149 code, fuel system metering. That's all the code says. Anyhow, the car started to stall or sputter intermittently, it starts just fine every time and only sputters on occasion. I changed the spark plugs, both O2 sensors and still same issue. I then changed the distributor cap and rotor. This seemed to make the sputtering problem go away. The check engine light is still on though. Today it started sputtering again right after I filled the tank.
According to a Honda bulletin I found, the P1149 code means I have to replace the ECU because the computer is running in some sort of loop it can't get out of. I have also read elsewhere that these could be signs of anything from a bad main relay to vapor lock.
Is anyone familiar with these symptoms, and could the ECU be the cause of the sputtering? I am going nuts since this only happens occasionally. Sometimes it runs like a champ, other times it just stalls and sputters. It never shuts down and always cranks up right away. Anyone?

EDIT: The code P1149 is gone, but now I am getting a P1167
