It is imperative that your new ECU have the correct part number for your
VIN. If you are even remotely uncertain, call your dealer with your VIN and
the part number off the new ECU. He'll tell you if they match.

Maybe more than that. That's the immobilizer lamp. The ECU stores a 'list' of the keys that are authorized for it. It's not the serial # of the ECU, but the dealer has to program the immobilizer to accept that particular key.
