Thoughts on MT oil chg.
My 94 EX 4 cyl 5 spd has 190k miles. Don't know if the trans oil has ever been changed. Haynes manual indicates 2 qt of 15-40 oil for the chg. Anybody done this & have any thoughts on the oil, additives, procedure, etc?
This is very easy. 98CoupeV6 wasn't asking you a question, he was giving you the answer
Oil - Use the recommended fluid. I'd look in your owners manual but the 15-40 would probably work fine. That's what I used in my 4th gen, but the 6th gen specifies Honda MTF. It wont make a huge difference but I'd put whatever the manufacturer recommends.
Additives - Won't hurt, but if your syncros are fine I wouldn't worry about it. If they're a little rough shifting you could try a number of additives on the market. GM's "syncromesh" seems to be a popular one. Honda may have one of their own as well.
Changing the fluid - Look in your hayes manual, it has all the pictures. If I remember correctly there are two bolts on the passenger side of the transmission, one slightly higher than the other. Remove both and let the fluid drain. Replace the lower bolt and refill from the top. A hand-held syphon pump is a good tool for the job to suck up the new fluid from the bottle and pumping it into the transmission. They have an illustration of one in the hayes manual. The other option is to try pouring the fluid in with a funnel. It might be messier. Anyway, I'm sure you'll do fine.
