LX vs EX wagon...
Did Honda use the V-TEC engine in the Accord EX wagon, or do all Accord wagons have the lower power NON V-TEC engines? I've found a local car lot with an Accord wagon for sale, it appears to be an EX (has a sunroof and roof rack) but haven't been to see the car, yet, and my Honda experience is with Civics. If it's a V-TEC, am I better off adding a few power adding bolt-ons (like a CAI and a header/freer flowing exhaust) or saving all my money for an H22 swap? BTW, this wagon has a manual tranny, otherwise I wouldn't consider the engine swap.
Correct, EX wagons had VTEC like the sedans/coupes. I've always like the wagons. It was a very sporty ride. The only thing I think Honda didn't do to the wagon Accords Vtec was offer them w/ a 5spd.
They did offer the wagon in 5 speed for the 4th gen but the 5th gen wagon came in automatic only.
I have a 92 Accord EX wagon, AT, w/ 2.2 I4 SOHC non-vtec fully loaded. The engine is rated at 138 tp & 142 hp. I believe the vtec was added beginning the 93 models. The car is fairly light & small in comparison to newer Accords. The power is more than enough for daily driving and I never have any problem cruising from 65-75 in the beltway area. The engine sounds and feels much better above 3000 RPM. It now have 248,889 miles, third timing belts and water pumps, and just put on second radiator. It's a great little wagon.
