I apologize if this has been asked before. I searched the forums but didn't find any references.

I have a 2002 Accord EX with the factory security system. Is there any way to make it automatically lock and unlock the doors with the ignition? I've had aftermarket systems on other cars that will do this, and many other car manufacturers (mainly American cars) have this feature built-in. Do I need to get something aftermarket to do this?

theres no oem way to do this..... youll have to find an aftermarket solution.

Well, I wasn't going to go into detail on that, but since you brought it up...

I had the Omega system removed and a Viper 330V installed at a local authorized Viper dealer/installer. The 330V just takes a factory system and augments it. It uses the factory transmitters. Basically, I'm fine with the factory system, but would like something to add the following functionality:

• Horn chirp when arming & disarming
• Starter kill when armed
• Automatic lock/unlock with ignition

The Viper 330V does 2 of those 3 things; it doesn't do the horn chirp. The only thing it will chirp is the Viper siren if you get it installed, which I didn't. Odd as this may sound, I didn't want the rest of the functionality of the system, i.e. the alarm part. Unfortunately, I discovered after I had left the dealer and they were closed for the day that something is wrong with the interaction between the Viper and factory systems: Whenever you arm, the alarm goes off right away. Weird! So for now, I am just running with the Viper system in valet mode, which still does the door lock/unlock but nothing else.

I'm probably just going to have it removed, since it doesn't really provide any extra functionality that the factory system doesn't, except for the automatic door lock/unlock, and to me, that's not worth the $200 for the system.

 

Has anyone mentioned to you about KP Technologies? They make several different modules to add on to your car. Including a universal auto lock/unlock module for $49.99. Might want to check them out at: http://www.kptechnologies.com/

 

Nope, no one has mentioned that to me. I just checked their web site; lots of good stuff there! I like the beeper for the lock/unlock as well, since mine doesn't do any sort of beeping unless I hit the lock button twice, and then I get a loud horn chirp. I may just end up having my Viper removed.

 

The Arm / Disarm "Beep" unit is nice. However, I added this feature to my car without the $50 price tag. Someone asked about this before on another forum that I am a member of that is dedicated to the Accords. I figured out a very simple and easy to do design. Only requires one relay and a piezo tweeter. I think I still have the schematic saved on it still if you are interested.

I'm also looking at their one-touch sunroof control module, as that would be very nice to have. I had a 98 Accord LX a while back that had an aftermarket sunroof, and it had one-touch controls. Very handy! (It also had an option to automatically close the roof when you turn off the ignition, but I usually liked to keep it open.)

 

Sure thing but first the disclosure. :blah: As with any information given on a forum, this modification is done so at your own risk. If you are not comfortable with a solder iron or cutting and splicing wires, I would not advise attempting to do this. This design does work and I have it installed on my 2003 Accord as proof.

So with that being said, it’s on to the details. :hsd:

First you will need a simple single pole / double throw automotive relay (SPDT). It should be 25-30 amp rating although you won’t be drawing that much current. These usually sell for about $5-$10 depending on where you get them. If you can’t find them at an auto parts store, check a nearby car audio shop. They sell them if you ask.

Second you need a Piezo buzzer. You can pick this up at Radio Shack. The part number for the one I got was #273-060. These run for about $5. This is a 12 VDC buzzer rated to run at 3-28 VDC with 5mA draw. It’s the best one I could find that was a continuous tone. You do not want a pulsating tone. They don’t work as well. If you can find a better or even louder one go for it.

Now on to the fun part. :chuckles: I wanted mine to be outside the cabin to be heard easier. I have mine under the hood. If you are in a noisy environment, it will still be difficult to hear. This is where a louder one would come in play if found. In normal residential areas, it sounds fine. I removed the bolts holding the under the hood fuse box and pulled it out enough to work with it. I removed the bottom half of the fuse box to access the wires underneath. I choose this location since it had all the wiring that is needed and it also was able to fit the whole mod inside the fuse box for protection from water. I just found the respective wires needed and soldered in to them. Just be sure to use a volt meter to determine the correct wires and the correct side of the fuse. You want to connect after the fuse. If you choose to get the wires needed somewhere else that’s your call. The two power sources needed are accessory switched power and parking lights.

The relay should be numbered with the pin numbers listed in the diagram. Connect pin # 86 to accessory switched power. Connect pin # 30 to the parking lights. Connect pin # 87a to the red wire on the buzzer. Finally connect pin # 85 and the black wire on the buzzer to ground. Tape up the relay real good with electrical tape to protect all connections and put it all back together.

What will happen:
Whenever the key is off and the lights flash, the buzzer will sound. If the key is on and the lights are on, the buzzer will be disabled. It acts similarly to the “lights on warning buzzer” inside the car. One note though. I don’t know if your 2002 has this feature or not but on the 2003, you can leave the lights on and they will automatically turn off after 30 seconds or so after leaving the car. If you do this, the buzzer will sound the entire time until they turn off.

I’m sorry I didn’t take any pictures of the install at the time and I didn’t think to write down the wire colors either or else I would supply them to you. If this information still leaves you at a loss let me know. I’ll help you as much as I can. Hopefully it does because I really, really don’t want to pull that fuse box back out again. Let me know how it goes and good luck.

Oh, and the one-touch feature for the moonroof, I agree. I'm looking at adding this in the future as well as the auto down side mirrors in reverse.
