the check engine light is on reading p1166 and p1167. i went to 2 different auto stores and had them do a reading. i tried filling the care with gas and a bottle of fuel injection cleaner, and i made sure the gas cap was on tight. still the check engine light is on after days. i compareed all the the notes from the blogs i read and the only thing i can come up with is the 02 sensor.

If you believe the IAC is the problem, you can clean it. Usually they get gummed up from the crap that the air filter doesn't completely filter out.

Remove the air intake hose from the throttle body, start the engine, and periodically squirt some carb cleaner down into the IAC orifice.

The IAC doesn't function once the throttle is moved, so you can't rev the engine while cleaning out the IAC.

I'm not a mechanic but I don't recommend ever running your car with the air intake disconnected. It isn't that hard to just remove it, clean the screen, let it dry, and then reinstall it.

To addicat1, first thing would be finding out what those codes are for. Is that what led you to the O2 sensor?

^na. i was running my car w/o the intake on for few weeks (which was kinda dangerous because anything could've gone in, but it wouldn't hurt from doing what gsd_Dan said. just make sure that you let anything solid go in there.

i'd recommend that u get the IAC valve out and clean it up good. that way u'd be sure that its clean. There're two of them actually. one in the back and one up front of the throttle body. i'm not sure if 98+ had the ones in the front, but my 95 does.

so just pull them out. its really easy and clean em w/ a carb cleaner and put em back in. u'll probably pull out no more than 4 bolts.

thanks for the info. i ended up taking it to the honda dealer for a diag. it ended up being the primary or sensor. i purchased the part and had them show me where it was located. if you standing in from of the car you can see it on the from of the motor. my husband and i are going to replace it ourselves.
