Default 98 accord engine/exhaust problem.

I was on the interstate the other day and my engine shut off out of nowhere. I coasted to the side of the road and it started right back up with no problem. And today i was driving to my house in my neighborhood and my engine almost shut off but it didnt. The RPMs and MPH meters dropped to zero for a split second and it went back to normal. My maintanence light starts to blink a few times when i start my car.

My check engine light has been on for a while and i got it scanned at autozone. They said it was my egr valve and i went to again later and they said it was my O2 sensor.

Any help??

An o2 senser should not kill the engine but and egr valve stuck open will. The maintenance light just means you need and oil change.

my engine studder stalled again today. Felt like it choked for a second before catching itself again. Replacing the egr valve a lot of money? is this causing a lot of damage to my car now?

getting it replaced at a shop is somewhat expensive. maybe get your batt and alternator checked. both of those could make the car stall and the gauge symptom is familiar to dead batteries in my cars and obviously no spark = no enginge runnage

is there a step by step guide and a place where i can get all the parts cheap? Is it as simple as a oil change? I would actually like to do it myself because i want to learn how anyway. Is the egr valve a part that can be bought separately or do i need to buy a package with it, like with the the boot on the axle. I had to replace the entire axle because my boot was cracked and oil was leaking everywhere.

Is it a v6 or a 4 cylinder?
How may times have you throw the egr code?

If it a v6 it has other problems read this.

http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/tsb/accord/A99-085.pdf

If its a 4 cylinder check hear get your manual.

I like to use oem parts so go to the dealer. EGR valve are one piece no additional peaces need.

resparking up this old thread because i still havent fixed my car... i took it to autozone a few months ago and got it checked out... the codes i got were:

P0420
P0401

i attached the printouts

if i were to remove my egr valve, do i need to take any certain precautions before i clean it? what should i use to clean it? and for the 0420 code, should i just buy an O2 sensor?

thanks for the help
