vtec code?
my 98 ex 4cyl is throwing code 1259. I know it is a vtec code but there are like 10 listed in my manual. all it says is vtec malfunction. when i hit 4000 it seems like it is bouncing off of my rev limiter. can anyone tell me exactly what this code says about my vtec system? I know i have good oil pressure in the engine, and i know it just might be my vtec oil screen clogged up, but i just wanted to know if it was something else before i go through the pain in the ass of pulling my vtec solinoid off.
vtec solinoid is one of the easiest things to take out.
see if there're any oil leaking from there. it has a little gasket, that costs around $2 at the honda dealer.
if its leaking then change out that gasket.
i forgot how many bolts there were on the vtec solinoid.
but trust me its right there behind the distributor. i didn't have to remove anyother part to take it out.

i looked at it the other day and it looked like it might be a pain because everything was so tight. there are only three bolts on it so i guess i'll pull it and check the screen, because it is not leaking. but i had to wire it myself because my old motor was non-vtec. i am 99% sure it is right tho. the exact meaning of the code would be great to know though.
hey i think i know what it is. ur vtec is not running.
do u know how to make a vtec light? if yes then make a vtec light and see if it turns on @ around 4k rpm.
if not, then put ur car on a lift and put it in D1 or first gear, disconnect the vtec solenoid and have someone give it gas and go up very slowly to 4k rpm. hook up a test light to the vtec wire coming from the ecu. and see if it lights up. if it lights up then i'd change out the vtec solinoid, because thats the only thing that could go wrong if the light comes on.
if not then ur wire probably broke some where.
