Default Suspension 101

I've heard that for 98 Accord Coupe that a set of front upper Strut Braces and a Rear Swaybar is good. Any suggestions? I was thinking of getting a set of Neuspeed Swaybars. Are the Strut Tie Downs or Braces better? And is it necessary to have both upper and lower, front and rear Tie Bars and Strut Braces, sounds like overkill to me.

Also is it expensive to install Swaybars?

Thanks everyone.

you should be fine with an upper front strut brace and a rear sway bar. anything beyond that to me is overkill. you can get a CL type S rear sway bar for about $50 at an acura dealer. it fits perfectly. a neuspeed upper strut brace will run you about $100. so for about $150 you should have a good ride.

What year Acura? Will my mechanic have a heart attack?
Are Strut Braces one of those things where they are all the same and I would only be paying for a name if I bought a name brand. Know of anyone selling Nuespeed stuff at a good price?

One last thing. Do you suggest getting new springs and shocks before or after this modification. I won't be looking lowering my car much just looking for stiffer springs. I'm looking at H&R OE. But I plan on keeping my stock struts for as long as I can. I know when I do get new struts they can lower my car even more so the H&R OE are good. I live in New England so function is definitely more important then form.

Thanks again.

new wheels, springs and shocks should come first before sway bars and strut braces. 2001 was the year they started making the type s for the CL. either get a 01 or 02 sway bar but make sure you get the bar for the type s. the base CL bar is 1mm smaller in diameter. you can get neuspeed stuff from nopionline.com at a resonable price.

u might consider Eibach prokit springs over the H&R OE's. The prokits will work fine with your stock struts ( I had them on my car). Your car will be lower by about 1.3". It will just look like an agressive version of stock.

This is my 94 on prokits with stock wheels, tires, and struts...

Dave94ex,
I really considered it. But i live in Boston and travel to NYC quite a bit. I have a friend that lowered his A4 about 1.5 inches and has been tearing stuff from the bottom of his car regularly because of our mighty pot holes and steep ramps.

Hey, that gives me an idea for a new questions. Do you know anyone who has the prokit and lives around Manhatten?

Your car looks great? Somehow I measured 1.5" (what Eibach says the prokit for my honda will go) and my splash guard ended about 1" off the ground is my car lower at stock?

Were did you get your grille? I'm trying to decide on a grille or fog lights.

Thanks

maybe your car is lower as stock. I know I have never hit anything with my drop. My front lip even clears parking spot blocks. I am sure the A4 is lower at stock so 1.5" is probably a lot for him.

The grill btw - is a custom DIY job.

I agree. I think my car is also pretty low at stock. Maybe it's the
EX model of 98. I think I'm going to stick with the EO. I also hear new struts with also lower the car a little. Maybe later on I'll get new struts after I get the strut tie downs and the sway bar. Or if I see a good deal on a set. Koni Yellows seem to be very popular.

My friends A4 is getting so beat up that I think he could raise it a half an inch and still hit stuff. His wife is making him go back to stock. Such a shame because the car was looking good.

You did a good job with your grille. What did you use to fasten it?
