99 Accord Check Engine Kight
The CEL on my daughter's Accord came on last week. I have zero experience working on Hondas. Do they have mileage driven CELs to remind for oil changes and such? Is there a method to check the code without a scanner? Can it be reset without pulling the batt. cable? Any info would be appreciated.
The CEL light will flash at you after you start the car for the mileage driven service reminders. I have a very cheap code reader for all ODBII CPU's that I got from PepBoys for $58, and it's been more than a lifesaver in many situations...
The 'Maint.Req' lamp is the simple mileage reminder for service intervals (7500 miles).
The 'Check Engine' lamp indicates that an error is stored in the car's memory. Best thing to do is go to AutoZone or someplace like that. They plug in the scanner, read the code. Get the actual code number because sometimes they can be sorta creative with the explanations of what causes it. Post back here with the code number.
If they won't reset it, you can do that yourself. Open the right-front door, there's a fusebox in the end of the dashboard, near the door hinges. Pull out fuse #13 for a few seconds while the car is turned off. (You don't say where you are, but if your steering wheel is on the wrong side then I'm not sure which side fusebox you want...)
