Default WOW $900 Timing belt/water pump service!

Suburban Chicago

My 97 Honda Accord DX 4cylc is at 105,000 miles which means it is time to get the timing belt changed....

I called three different honda dealers..

To change out timing belt, water pump, accessory belt and coolant flush....

Dealer No. 1: $900.00
Dealer No. 2: $960.00
Dealer No. 3: $984.43

Luckily some indepents quoted me

1. $640
2. $570
3. $531

I can't believe dealers are charging this much

actually, that's about right for Chicago land. the dealers really don't flex much on the price and go "by the book" on price estimates.

I think Schaumburg Honda (the one with the midnight service desk) runs about $900 for theirs.

btw, you're supposed to get your belts changed every 100K or 7 years. do it soon or you might bend a valve when your rubber naps.

Or you can just buy the parts and put it in yourself which is what I do.

Unless you're not the handy type. h:

I'm pretty sure you're suppose to change your timing belt between 75,000-85,000 miles not past that, but obviously it passed it. Don't really know how much in my area but good luck.

I mean i don't know how much a dealer would charge. But we have a guy that does all our cars at work and he charges a lot less.
