Default DIY : modded, shortening shift knob on a 94-97 accord coupe

HI guys i have a DIY question for the experts.as before i said i want to buy a 94-97 honda accord coupe soon.i recently thought of an idea for the video set up in the dash.i like the flat stock looking dash set up.which would be a 7 inch lcd screen mounted in the double din slot in the dash.thn below that possible getting a cd/dvd player to play all my audio/video.now on the bottom slot on an automatic the shifter is very much in the way height wise.is it possible to cut the shifter down and making a small shift boot for the top,i.e. the newer accords ive seen that modification done to a 94 camry.so i know its possible.has anyone done this to an accord ???any and all opinions or info is welcome thanxxx

I've never seen this done on an automatic car. Theres mechanisms in the shifter if cut could prevent you from shifting. Probably a cable or something.

As for the indash radio why not just buy a a radio with a built in 7in screen.
Panasonic, JVC, Kenwood makes them.

I have done the method your describing on my car and i wish I originally bought that indash screen but ohh well.

I bought my fiancee the JVC 6.5in tv/ radio etc...for her car and she loves it.

YA thats what i thought u meant by the radio with the built in screen,id buy that cause that would be the stock look and it plays everything in one unit.id definitelty consider it cus it will take up the double din,but my idea i would save a few hundred bucks.those run for 700,i could do the 7 inch lcd mounted and the cd/dvd head unit for somewhere around $300-$400,thats my only problem is the prices.

I've seen that exact radio go for around 500 bucks on eBay.
If you feel comfortable going that route then I would go ahead and do it.

yes you can cut them down, take it apart and you'll see what needs to be preserved. or just remove the shift lock mechanism from the base and don't worry about it.
