Default cluster lighting problem (reversed?)

my cluster needles are working properly. When the headlights are in "OFF" the "D4" light, clock, and climate control lights up. When I turn on the headlights my drive "D4" light, clock, and climate control light turns off. The lights on the cluster are off reglardless if my headlights are on or off. Any clues as to why it's like this? Did a fuse get reversed? Please help and don't flame this noob

Car is a 2001 Accord EX V6 Sedan

Thy have a multiplex recall.Call your dealer to see if your car apples its free.It causes all kinds of problems with the lights.

A reversed fuse will still work it will not reverse polarities(not flaming).

So for these recall things, do we just go to the Honda dealer and MOST should be free right?

sounds like the (drivers side?) multiplexer is fried. I remember someone having a similar problem.

i doubt theres a recall on it.... but a VIN check shouldn't hurt

check the junkyards, before buying a replacement if you need one.

So the multiplex is fried huh? I called the dealership to see if there was a multiplex recall but they won't take any cars with multiplex issues over 80k miles. I have 120k. I can have them do diagnosis for $45 to see what is wrong. If it is a multiplex they would charge $300 for part and $200 for labor. I don't think this is a big concern for me since the only thing i'm losing is that P,R,N,D4...light, and losing the instrument cluster light. I've attached some LED light on the cluster and can see at night now. If any one have a picture or guide on how to disassemble a multiplex let me know. I think i can get my hands on a multiplex for about $50 at a local junkyard if it comes down to that.

the driver's multiplexer unit can also be damaged from a aftermarket radio install if the dimer lead is left open and touches ground. they are easy to spot pull the fuse cover on the driver's side look behind the fuses you will see a box pluged into the fuse box it can be blue, white or some other color just remember those units are model specific Lx ,Ex ,2 or 4 door are diffrent they are about $150 new.

Thanks stereo, I'll keep that in mind when I look for a multiplex. There isn't any screws that I gotta deal with right ? it's a snap in snap out box??

It's funny that this was posted here. I just recently had the EXACT same problem. I know where I can purchase th multiplex unit, but installing it seems difficult. The box seems unreachable. I have yet to check out a few junkyards though.

So, I just purchased the multiplex unit from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com :

Cabin Control Unit - System Unit - Part No. 371022

Cost about $138 shipped. As soon as I get it I'll post with updates on the problem and pics of the install.
