Default Early Head Gasket Failure--2006 Accord EX v6

Our brand new 2006 Accord V6 EX without Navi, has just had a head gasket failure with 3463 miles on the car. Needless to say I am plenty upset. Has anyone else experienced an early failure such as this one? I would personally like Honda to do a buy back as opposed to having the failure repaired. What are some of your thoughts on this matter? Also, are there other things we should insist be checked and/or repaired before agreeing to just fixing the head gasket?

Thanks--Brandi

What is wrong with having it repaired. if done correctly the car would be just as new. Defects happen, nothing you can do about it. The car is under warranty, it won't cost you a dime. Bring it in and ask for a loaner car for the day. You shouldn't need any other repairs with the amount of mileage on that car.

Thanks for your reply--that is what we are leaning towards--repair. As the repair/service manager assures us it is an external leak and not an internal leak. I suppose I am more worried, that if something fairly major has occurred this early, then what else is in store for us? The car is currently at the dealership and we have a loaner, though they tell us once the part arrives it will take at least 3 days to repair. I suppose that is fine also, as long as it is repaired appropriately. Like I stated previously, I am just worried whether this is just a glimpse of what is in store for us -- though I wouldn't expect more problems from a Honda normally--this just has me a little (OK a lot) nervous. I certainly expected better from a Honda (All I have ever owned and never had one with any problems--until I wrecked them ) especially our very first Brand New car purchase. Thanks again for your thoughts on the matter.

Did the car overheat or did you just notice coolant on the ground?? I'd say get it fixed and quit complaining, your lucky to be able to afford a new car.

This is kind of a need to know question, it will have to do with how much work will have to be done.

That's what the warranty is for bud. I know people with GM vehicles who have had their engines replaced 2 or 3 times before warranty expires.

This is obviously a freak factory defect, welcome to mass assembly. I've never heard of another head gasket failure on a J series motor no matter the mileage on it.

We have had 3 fail. On a Pilot, Odyssey, and Accord. The problems were that the blocks were bad and the heads lifted b/c the headbolts couldn't be torqued.

I guess that pretty much explains it.

That does suck. Hopefully it won't have any more problems for the rest of it's life. That is a lot more typical of Hondas.
