Default Engine Problem

My car has been effed up lately. My car sounds really shitty when I have it on. Also, my steering wheel vibrates and I believe it is because of my engine. And obviously, my Engine Check light is on. So today, I went to see what was wrong and i revved my car all the way to 5krpm then let it go back down. Guess what, the car died. This has never happened to me before. I also have NO time to drive 40 mins to autozone. Can anyone help me here?

i have a 98 accord auto

How are the basics? -- fuel filter, air filter, plugs, plug wires, battery, compression, idle speed setting ?

Tran and engine problems? How many miles do you have on the car? When was your last complete tune up and ATF change?

You need to make the time to drive to AutoZone and get the code read. Otherwise, you'll have to jump the OBD port which is a pain IMO.

160k miles. im not sure when the last tune up was. does anyone else have this problem? is it still driveable? although i can fix the problem by switching gears manually, it makes a big jerk and is embarassing.

Does the engine sound like crap with the tranny in park? Or only with the transmission engaged? (drive, reverse, etc....)
