Default 98 Accord check engine light

My check engine light is staying on, when I took it in to the dealer, the first thing they said was that it was in the fuel emissions, so we replaced the fuel cap, but the check engine light came back on again, then they said it could be the fuel vapor canister, where the heck is that thing, and will I be able to replace it myself, the dealer is wanting to charge an arm and a leg to replace it in the shop. Question is can I purchase this part from a parts store or is it a dealer item only??????, and once I do get the part how hard is it to replace it, can someone give me some advise on this, with out this repair my check engine light wil continue to stay on, and I won't be able to have my car will not pass state inspection (emmsions part of it) HELP

looks like your dealer is giving you the run-around

if you have an autozone in your area, they can read the code from the light if the dealer didnt give it to you

See if you can post more info... like the stored DTCs they pulled. Maybe that will help shed some light on their thought process.
