Default '97 Accord

I just bought a '97 Accord a few days ago from my dad, who is a Honda mechanic. He bought the car for like 400 bucks with a blown motor. Before he sold it to me he dropped a new 2.2l engine back in it and put on a new rear bumper. I was thinking of selling it, but I'm not sure what it's worth. I haven't consulted my dad yet, but I'm thinking it's worth around 6000. It's a '97 Accord LX. It has power locks and doors, power sun roof, factory cd player, and new brakes, tires, and ac. It's got around 170k orginal miles, and I've put about 600 miles on the motor. It has minor dings on the driver side and the bumper has yet to be painted. Also, it has new hubcaps and window wipers. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Those sites should help. I have no idea what it would be worth. Not sure I'd pay $6K for it with the description you gave. But maybe someone else would. Good luck.

Ya, I checked the blue book and it says its worth around 4, but i dont see a place to enter into the equation that the motor is new. I guess you'd have to see the car. I just can't see selling a car with a new motor for that much. I mean, someone would get another ten years out of the car, but I don't know much about cars. =\ Really, the car besides, the dings and bumper, looks brand new. The interior is flawless as well.

Well, if you think it is worth 6K, put it up for 6K. I sold my '93 for $2400, quite a way above book, but when I talked to people about it I sincerely believed it was worth that (and still do) as I had taken good care of it and had a fair amount of work done on it. Might as well try to sell it higher than lower. Hopefully you aren't in a rush though. The more time you have to sell it the better situation you'll be since you can turn people down who offer less than you are asking.

There is no classification for a new motor, doesn't matter. Does it say 4k for good, fair???

It says 4k for good and little more then 4k for excellent. the car is in excellent condition besides the needing paint on the bumper and a few dings on the driver side. Plus, a new motor? Come on. I have the paper work from Jarco and it blatantly says Jarco on the motor. I cannot believe the car is worth the same if it still had 170k on the motor. The car will run for 10 more years at least with regular oil changes. I had a '95 Civic that my dad again bought for 400 bucks. Popped a new motor in it. I bought it for 2k, and sold it for 3500 6 months later. I'll just take my time selling it like a previous poster said. People must take into consideration the newness of the motor, otherwise I would have sold the car with the busted motor.

Go for it. I bet you could get $5500 easy.

Out of curiosity, is the new motor the exact original LX motor (F22B2), or is it a VTEC model?

The original motor I believe. I'll check tomorrow to make sure though.
